Hi! I’m April Perry, one of the co-directors here at Power of Moms, and body image issues have kind of plagued me throughout my life.
I’m on an adventure right now–learning to go SANE with Jonathan Bailor.
That means I center my diet on foods that offer my body energy and solid nutrition and that are least likely to cause diabetes and obesity. The SANE acronym stands for Satiety, Agression, Nutrition, and Efficiency. (You can learn all about it here on Jonathan’s site!)
Some of you who have been with Power of Moms for a long time know that I started counting calories when I was nine.
See? Here’s one of my journal entries from 1988 (kind of sad, right?):
I’ve gotten progressively happier, healthier, and less-obsessed about my weight over the years as I’ve learned to be a deliberate mother, but still, it was a never-ending battle of “What should I eat? When should I go hungry? How can I be better about exercising? Why does my weight never change no matter what I do? Do I need to eat 900 calories a day and exercise for two hours? Am I weak? Am I a failure?”
Maybe you’ve never struggled with these kinds of thoughts. (Or maybe yours have been even more distressing.)
The point is that deliberate mothers have to learn how to maintain healthy bodies.
- Partly because we need energy, stamina and self-esteem in order to do a good job caring for our children.
- Partly because we need to be able to teach our children how to care for themselves.
- And partly because when we don’t pay attention to fueling our bodies effectively, we can end up depressed, sick, and tired of carrying around such an overwhelming burden.
Do you understand what I’m talking about? Have you been there?
I have spent years reading pretty much every health and diet book I could get my hands on. I’ve taken dozens of “before” pictures, but zero “after” pictures (until now). I finally came to the conclusion that I would just do my best and stop worrying about it.
But then I heard Jonathan Bailor as a guest on a podcast I had downloaded, and I hopped over to his podcast to hear more…which led me to his book…which changed my life, and now I want to share Jonathan’s wisdom with YOU.
How, you might ask?
Well, first you’ll want to listen to the initial podcast I recorded with him on Power of Moms Radio.
Jonathan has a voice that is wise, calms your heart, provides you with solid scientific data, and helps you realize that YOU can take your health (and your family’s health) into your own hands. I’m sure you’ll love it.
Then if you’re hungry for more and want to learn how to actually apply this process to your family life, enter your name and email here, and I’ll do three things for you:
(1) I’ll send you my personal guide to getting 10+ servings of vegetables into my diet every day as a multi-tasking mother.
I’ll share when I eat my vegetables, what I eat, how I involve my kids, and how I structure our family life so vegetables become part of our family culture.
(2) I’ll keep you up-to-date with extra links to resources that can help you to go SANE.
(3) I’ll send you a brief weekly newsletter from Power of Moms featuring the best of what we have to offer on our site. (You can unsubscribe from any and all of these updates whenever you wish…)
