In this assignment, we’re going to whittle that huge pile of papers all the way down to zero.
I know it seems like a mammoth project, but it’s just like learning to ride a bike: you start slow, and you’ll quickly pick up speed. This will likely take 10+ hours (if you’re pretty deep in papers), but the remaining assignments will continue to support you in this process. No need to rush. Here are a few step-by-step instructions to make this easy for you:
(1) Review these ground rules:
- Begin with the item on the top of the pile and work your way down one by one, no matter what. Do NOT scan the pile for things you WANT to process or that are EASY to process. Every single thing is going to be handled. In order.
- Absolutely nothing goes back into the inbox. It’s a one-way trip out of there (and don’t just pile it up somewhere else).
- Don’t let this overwhelm you. If you get 10 free minutes, process a few items. If you have some energy once the kids are in bed, tackle this hard. It doesn’t have to be done all it once, but it DOES need to be done. And you are the only one who can do this.
(2) Make sure you have access to your MOM Flow Chart and/or your Step-by-Step Instructions that you printed previously.
Just go through each step as outlined, and pretty soon you’ll be a natural. No discouragement, guilt, or frustration allowed here. This is the time to show yourself what you’re made of.
(3) When you’re taking a break, or if you want a little more coaching in the midst of the process, listen to these two podcasts:
Processing Like a Champ – Podcast (17 Minutes) A Doctor Bill, a Party Invitation, and a Flier – Processing with April and Guest Lindsay – Podcast (27 Minutes)
(4) If you need a rest from processing for awhile and want a few more examples, watch this video where April shows you how she processes all those “little things” that bother her.
We have lots of great information tucked into our Q&A section, Sharing Center, extra articles, video training, and full eBooks. And if you can’t quite find what you’re looking for, email [email protected] with your question, and we’ll do all we can to help. Good luck!
