Helping Siblings Develop Strong Friendships

We all hope for strong happy friendships between our children, right?

In this episode, Saren shares three important ways that we can set our children up for strong friendships now and in the future. She shares specific and easy ways that you can help your children learn to:

Resolve their own conflicts and repair problems that arise between them
Bond with each other through working, playing and experiencing things together
Support each other through knowing what is going on in each other’s lives and being each other’s greatest cheerleaders

Saren adores her five energetic, adventurous kids (ages 13-18) but doesn't totally adore the mess and busyness and bickering that that comes with them! She grew up all over the world, got her Bachelor's degree at Wellesley College and did her Masters in Education at Harvard University (these days, the diplomas on her wall mostly serve as visual aids when she's trying to convince her all-too-smart teenagers that she DOES know a thing or two!). She went on to design and implement enrichment programs for kids and training programs for teachers. But it was only after she finally found her wonderful husband, Jared, and had five children in five years, that her education and work experience began in earnest!

When she's not trying to answer five - or six - different needs and questions at once, she works on this website (she's Founder and Director of Power of Families).

She currently lives in Ogden, Utah and loves reading, hiking, and biking with her family (or by herself when possible!). She often struggles with balance but finds joy in being involved in many things that are meaningful to her.

Hi Saren! I’m a mother of 5 too! We actually planned for 4, asked the Lord for 2 boys and 2 girls and we were blessed, and I believe He loved our productivity that He gave us a bonus! Lol! So we have 3 boys and 2 girls. I love them all and pray everyday to be a better mother. But I also feel like I fail at it daily and look forward to try again tomorrow.
I feel so blessed to have found your sites! It all started from the Life As Mom blog which opened up this world of mothers all looking to be better at caring for their families. Finding this kind of support has really given me such hope that I can do it well! The Lord won’t give us something we can’t handle. I often tell Him how flattered I am He thinks so highly of me, and in the same breath ask, “Are you sure?” ?
I have purchased 3 books by your parents and have been sharing with my sisters and friends how much it has helped give my husband and I more direction. We are definitely a work in progress, but I now have the confidence of knowing there are people out there who have done it and did it well and gladly sharing the information. I just wanted to say hello and thank you. You really are living your family’s motto of “Broaden and contribute.” I have visited relatives in Ogden just this past March and hope to get to meet you when I next visit.
