Here’s our question for you this week:
What is one goal you have been successful at achieving and how did you accomplish it?
The start of a new year for many of us means a time to set goals for improvement. Perhaps it’s decluttering our home. Maybe it’s starting a new allowance system for our children, or sticking to a budget ourselves. Of course there is always the popular goal of getting healthier in the coming year. All of these are wonderful goals but too often we can get derailed and find ourselves wondering where we went wrong.
I talked recently with a friend, Marnie Starrett, who is a life coach. She offered a few simple strategies for setting yourself up for success:
1. UNDERSTAND YOUR WHY
When you have a solid understanding of why your goal is so important it will make achieving it easier. A vision board, a journal or even a picture can keep your reason for your goal forefront in your mind.
2. SET AN ACHIEVEABLE TIME FRAME
It’s important to make your goal doable. If your goal is too daunting or unrealistic then it becomes easy to get discouraged. For example, instead of deciding you have to reorganize your house all at once, start with a room or even a drawer. Small, doable steps lead to small wins that build momentum.
3. REWARD YOURSELF ALONG THE WAY
Change can be difficult and it’s important that we acknowledge that by celebrating those small wins. A lunch out, a new outfit or a hike in the woods can go a long way towards inspiring us to continue on our goal journey.
4. FIND SOMEONE TO BE ACCOUNTABLE TO
When we share our goals with people we trust we can increase the chances for success. We all need someone who we feel supports our goals and whom we can share our challenges with. A good friend, a spouse, or even a coach is another great tool to help us achieve our goals.

A few years ago I set a goal to get our 72 hr kits put together (with clothes, good and water). It was a lofty goal but I was able to accomplish it and have kept it up rotating things every 6 months.
I need to be better at accomplishing my fitness goals but ya know!!

That’s a great goal! We put the kits together but this a good reminder that I need to rotate the food:)
