When I (April) started reading Julie Morgenstern’s books, I felt like I’d found a hero and a mentor–someone who could really understand and improve my life as a mother.
Julie has been featured on CNN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and countless other amazing places. You can imagine how excited I was to have the chance to interview her on a Power of Moms podcast. (Especially since she jumped on the phone with me just a few minutes after being interviewed by Katie Couric. Isn’t that fun?)
And now I can’t wait to share our podcast with you.
Here’s what we covered in our 25-minute conversation (honestly, you don’t want to miss this):
- How does “getting organized” help us become more deliberate mothers?
- How did Julie go from being very unorganized to being a professional organizer? And how was motherhood the catalyst for this change?
- What if we want to “fly by the seat of our pants”? Will systems and processes cramp our ability to be spontaneous?
- Where should we even BEGIN if our lives feel too overwhelming?
- How do we get control over the constant urge we have to check our phones?
- How do I make time to fuel myself with activities and projects that nourish me on the deepest level? (Is it possible?)
I know you’ll feel just as uplifted as I felt when you listen to this conversation. Click here to learn more about Julie’s “Balanced Life Planner, and to find out more about Julie, her books, and her coaching services, you can visit JulieMorgenstern.com.

Great podcast! Another tip that I’ve found helpful for breaking the smartphone / email habit is to go into your smartphone settings and turn off the sound or vibration that goes off every time you get an email. It’s made it much easier for me to let it go!

This came at the perfect time! We just talked last night about starting to organize one space at a time – so thanks!! I also appreciated the idea of digital breaks for the first and last hours of the day – I know I don’t sleep as well when I’m on email til late, really needed the reminder. And I’m definitely going to carve out that “sacred” time to do something I want to do!!!

Thank you for the podcast. I was intrigued by the discussion about devices. It left me wondering how I can help my husband and children let go of their devices more without them feeling like its a punishment. Do you have any suggestions?

I LOVED this! I appreciate her closing remarks, that organization is a life skill. I’m not disorganized, I’m just in the process of organizing! I also feel inspired to do a little less looking at my phone and a lot more eye contact. Thank You!
